Jesus died on a cross to give us life - eternal life! He said these words to a seeker named Nicodemus: "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16). Like one of the prophets said - "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Joel 2:32, Romans 10:13). Jesus's name means "The Lord is salvation" - God-in-person saving us. Without Jesus, we are broken and lost in our sin, hiding from a God who loves us even though we are like that: "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." (Romans 5:8).  

How can we be sure that Jesus gives us life? Because God raised Him from the dead. You can read about the whole story of Jesus accurately and simply portrayed in any one of the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke or John (Mark is the shortest one). Perhaps you have a curiosity to read one of them, these books that are like no other books. In each one of the gospels, the last few chapters describe Jesus' death and resurrection in detail. But you will read more than historical facts: you will get to know a person - a true person who looks you in the eyes with earnest, honest love and calls you to the best life there is: His life!
